There is a lot of conspiracy floating around on the dark corners of the internet about some "New world order" that is taking over the planet step by step.
Sometimes prominent politicians mention a "world government" or a "new world order", and everytime bring a lot of wood to the conspiracy fire.
So that stops you from even wondering if this world government thing could be beneficial.
I will take a different look on the issue now.
Do we need a world government?
Do we need a world government? And what would the purpose of such a government be?
I thought about it for some time and this is what I could bring it down to.
The purpose of a world government:
- Sustainability
- World peace
Only in these two politial areas should policy be created.
But is it really nescesary?
Aren't nations, cities, organizations, companies and even individuals aware of globally spanning problems and willing to fix them dynamically?
By that I mean the shared interest to solve all the global problems we are facing.
If you think about it, a solution to almost any sustainability problem we have will lead to profit.
So one would presume that world sustainability could be fixed through private enterprise.
For the most part I think that is a correct conclusion, but some areas have no incentives or lead to a grid-lock of interests.
One purpose of a world government could be to unite and agree on economic incentives for succesful solutions to problems that span globally.
I do not believe that is the right path to take though. It reminds me too much of the EU farming subsidies that have done more worse than good.
Don't participate just regulate
Politics most important role is to regulate our tolerance level and strike hard on countries that do not live up to our commonly set limits for different subjects such as pollution level, human impact on the ocean and so on.
So I believe in shared world politics as a regulating force (in a very general and unbureaucratic way) but not as a force of incentive control and divider of investments.
A world government must not participate in solving the problems, only set very clear and simple game rules.
